We all know that Metallica has had huge success with their style and sound of music. Some can find reasons to hate them, but for the most of the part they are incredible talented musicians. What do talented musicians use that us regular people don’t. In our segment of What Do They Use, we will break down all the equipment that Metallica used on their latest tour. James Hetfield – Vocalist and Rhythm Guitar For the most part James likes to use ESP and Gibson guitars and stay with mostly Mesa guitar amps. For his vocals he uses a Shure Super 55 stage microphone to bring it all…

  • What We Want from the New Slayer Album

    20 Jul 2015 | 5:25 pm
When our favorite bands release new albums we are excited and eager to see what they will do. But there are a few things that every fan expects to hear in the new album. As Slayer gets ready to release their eleventh studio album 'Repentless' there are a few things that I want to see in their 2015 release. Thrash Metal 101 As one of the founder fathers, when we get a Slayer album we are excepting a raw thrash metal sound. We expect nothing else, or nothing more. We don't want any cross over or experiments.  Just thrash metal basic...fast riffs, double bass, and aggression.
  • Why Getting Behind Tidal Could be a Good Thing for the Metal Community

    Cody Sparks
    12 Jul 2015 | 7:53 pm
Ignore the many pop celebrities that helped launched Jay Z’s new music streaming service. People should be concerned about the underlining positives compared that Tidal brings to the market unlike the likes of SoundCloud and other existing music apps. With Tidal doubling Spotify’s average payout, the rapper’s music service appears to be rewarding larger royalties to the artists extending streaming rights to Tidal, which could be beneficial to the metal community if they get behind this app in the coming months. read more

If you’re like me, time is at a premium and I simply don’t have enough of it to accomplish everything I need or want to. I do need to let you know about some quality metal, sans the normal amount of detail. Here are a few quick reviews of music I’ve been digging and can recommend for your Metal enjoyment. Ahab – The Boats of the Glen Carrig (Napalm Records): The great thing about Metal is that you often make discoveries of things about which you previously knew nothing. Ahab‘s latest is based on a 1907 novel of the same title by William Hope Hodgson. I like the…

The tour of multi-national artists kicked off at Reggies in Chicago this week.  Sure there were some first show glitches, but overall it was an excellent night of Power and Progressive Metal for the small mass of fans in attendance. Kicking off the show was Oceans of Slumber, a uniquely different band with a combination of a couple of different styles – bluesy soul and Prog Metal with a touch of Tech Death and some Doom Metal.  Quite the mix.  While previous to the show, the only thing I had heard from the band was their Blue EP, I was interested to hear some original material. …

Trivium are one of the bands I have followed for many, many years now and it’s really awesome to have seen their musicianship mature and take all sorts of angles. Then of course there is their upcoming album which I think will garner mixed feelings from the metal community. The latest released single titled, Until The World Goes Cold, brings in a fresher sound, which honestly does not surprise me. Looking back at their history, the single shows off the sound the group has been intending to play for years now, even lead man Matt Heafy, wanted to release music that was much closer to…

Doom veterans AHAB are back with their The Boats of The Glenn Carrig. It’s always a strange and slightly intimidating notion to review a new album by a veteran band, perhaps one whose music accompanied you while growing up. Such is the case here, as AHAB has been operating for more than ten years. All that being said, it is the task of the reviewer to review and so he has. So, what is The Boats of The Glenn Carig like? To draw on the cliche, imagine the full weight of that mythical prey Moby Dick crashing you on you wholly, drowning you in the dark, abyssal waters from which it came.

Long Island has been fortunate enough to have one of the best thriving scenes, and to prove it, we have Today’s Mixtape Festival at The Emporium in Patchogue, New York. Local music scenes are cool, and that’s a fact.
